We are very proud to present to you our latest addition to the Mutecast legacy (…) Our next guest is from mexico, although he has been living in Barcelona for the last 3 years together with his girl. Miguel, or Mig Dfoe as you might know him (or will know in the near future), recently has been working alot for the Traum schallplatten label, remixing Applescal & Extrawelt (listen and/or buy here) and Minilogue, as well as a soon to be released Max Cooper song. Other upcoming work encompasses an own album, music for Absolutive and the Russian Linesman label; Loki

He’s been making music since 17,  starting off playing garage rock with his friend Erik. Influenced in his younger years by the chemical brothers, tool, Apollo 440, Paul Oakendfold, Fatboy slim and his favorite trip metal band The Gathering. Considering he made loops and pads even back then one can see that it has always been about blending electronic and metal. The love for electronic music fully bloomed 8 years ago. And here we are… With a mix that breathes admiration for people like Four Tet, Scuba, Ametsub, Zomby, Aboutface, Burial, Flying Lotus and many more. Go check it out!

Tracklist:

Marcel Detman, Scuba, Caribou, Pantha du Prince, Adam Tylor, Redshape, Walls, Booka Shade, Ellen Allien & Apparat, Fuck Buttons

Ahh the sweet smell of blooming sounds! Piet van Dongen was so kind to provide us with a musical accompaniment for this lovely time of year. Piet is not new to the electronic music scene, on the contrary, but since this set is not like anything he has created sofar it wouldn’t make sense to mention all that. So lets focus on the present.

Starting off with a classical “springy” vibe, things turn ugly & nasty in a matter of minutes (in the good sense obviously). It is quite obvious that his man crush on the Noisia boys is ready to be shared with all the world. And for those of you who thought classical music and heavy, agressive basslines are a marriage (wink) that will never work, think (or listen) again. Anyway, writing won’t do it justice, once more it promisses to be an interesting 40 minutes!

BTW did you know that the traditional etymology for April is from the Latin aperire, “to open,” in allusion to its being the season when trees and flowers begin to “open”.

So why not “open” yourself up to Piet van Dongen (okay that was the lame bridge ever)

For years and years and years we have been a fan of Fef’s music selection. Long nights of dancing were even more fun with the prospect of an after at Fef’s place.  Cup of tea, Little bit of hasj and our over/hyperactive friend behind his laptop. Up until now most of humanity was deprived of these little moments of sheer happyness.. up until now indeed… We asked him to do a Mutecast, and boy did he deliver. It’s new age on acid, it’s listening to whales 2.0, it’s electronic meditation. And we can’t help but picture scandinavia when hearing all these bleeps and blops. Mind you, that’s a good thing.

By now Fef is about 16000 kilometers away from our dutch headquarters, but as soon as he returns we will definitly ask him to do one more!

Boil some water, lay down and find your inner… whatever it is that is in there..

We are going (partially) international! Originally hailing from the west coast of the good old U S of A but now residing in the east of NL, this months Mutecast was made by Alex Brandmeyer. Alex has been playing around with electronic music for a long time now, did some gigs at nijmegen’s own Doornroosje, and is busy as a producer.

Made in memory of last years burning man desert festival  (which we hope to witness with our own eyes one day) this months cocktail is a dark one: A decent amount of anything that is (early) border community, sprinkles of Twin Peaks and “black as midnight on a moonless night”. That should get you floating off in no time. Bottoms up!

TL:

1. Luke Abbott – Musicbox Two
2. The Orb – Glen Coe
3. Mira Calix – Sandsings (Boards of Canada remix)
4. Luke Abbott – Little Wonderment
5. Max Cooper – Dischordance
6. Gui Boratto – Arquipelago
7. Max Cooper – Stochastisch Serie
8. Extrawelt – DistTheme
9. Moonbeam – Land of the Lost (Strict Mix)
10. Marc Romboy, Gui Boratto – Eurasia (Gui’s Version feat. Luciana Villanova)
11. Extrawelt – Drehfehler
12. Paul Kalkbrenner – Azure

Enjoy

Obviously we like radioshows, especially when they are filled with slightly weird sounds. And we like ourselves a bit of Thom Yorke.  Now it doesnt take a brilliant mind to imagine combining the two.  Actually it’s something that we thought of, and god knows we tried to make it happen, mailing him more then once, asking to do a mutecast, but no reaction whatsoever. (stardom risen to your head a bit, Thom?… little arrogant..)

But now we know why: The guys at BBC radio 1 must be a bit cooler then we are and so they beat us to the curve.  Last wednesday Gilles Peterson invited the radiohead frontman to join him in his radio show, playing some of the records he likes, mumbling about politics and what not. That means two hours of dubby-trippy-techy-jazzy-etc.  sounds! Just up our street!

Now ofcourse you can listen to the show on the BBC iPlayer, but that’s only for the next 6 days, and since  streaming is kinda 2009 and you would want to listen to this while you are… doing whatever it is people do when they are not on the internet…  we took the liberty of ripping the entire two hours for your downloading pleasure.

Get it here, while its hot… or here….

In our mission to bring you some of the loveliest electronic music, in a neat package, once a month, we give you Mutecast numero dos! (number two for our non spanish visitors).

This time boud has spent 73.30 minutes making a lovely mix when he actually was supposed to be studying. We guess that only shows the dedication to our cause! Who needs a career anyway… Not us, that’s for sure!

Anyway, the tracklist looks rather mouthwatering, even if we do say so ourselves. Containing tracks from the forthcoming Massive Attack album: Heligoland (don’t forget to take a look at their rather NSFW video),  Portisheads’ mastermind Geoff Barrow with his band Beak>, Busy swede Harald “kranglan broadcast” Bjork and Washed Outs’  Ernest Greene (who is, according to pitchfork, “a young guy from Georgia who makes bedroom synthpop that sounds blurred and woozily evocative, like someone smeared Vaseline all over an early OMD demo tape, then stayed up all night trying to recreate what they heard.”)

…..

And much, much more!

All there is left to say this month is:  Fire up your modems & enjoy!! We hope to see you next month, when we will have another lovely guestmix!

Tracklist:

Beak – Pill
Fuck Buttons – Surf Solar
Grackle – Genres (trance mix)

So here we are:  Mute, yet another site all about electronic music. Nothing new really and fortunatly we don’t pretend to be. We just wish to bring exciting music to your ears.

And what better way to underline that idea then by bringing you the first edition of our monthly Mutecast: an hour (or so) of very pretty electronic music picked and mixed together skillfully by people who are best described as huge music geeks/nerds. If that doesn’t sound appealing…

This month its Jord3n’s turn to take place behind the wheels of silicone, and he baked up one of those mixes that we like best. Listening to it we picture ourselves shuffling around a dark and gloomy dancefloor, being surprised by the lovely twists and turns and always curious about whats coming next. Considering its the first mix he has ever done makes it all the more impressive, but be sure to judge for yourself, and don’t hesitate to let us know what you think or feel!

Check it out either on fairtilizer or soundcloud!

Here’s the tracklist:
Purple Confusion – Introduction
Flying Lotus – Camel (nosaj Thing Remix)
The Field – I have the moon, you have the internet (Gold Panda Remix)
Four Tet – Love Cry (Joy Orbison Remix)

And if you like what Jord3n did, check out his myspace or soundcloud!

Most lovely interview with the most lovely mister Mayer @ Pitchfork. He even made a mix containing some kompakt gems from the past decade, free for us cologne freaks to download. Go check it out!

Born out of frustration about how some people seem to be on an ego-trip when it comes to sharing on the internet.

Let me just say this: It’s useless to force people to participate online. Most of them just will not. Making music hide behind passwords provokes people to tell you how good you are and what wonderfull work you are doing. Maybe you are not after a little ego stroking but, like i said, it does provoke it.

And eventhough it’s a hunch, I think you are a little on the horny side when it comes to yourself.

And I tend to like modesty.

Especially when, in its core, its about music other people have made.  Yes you did the work of ripping it but it doesnt grant you any special privileges over the material you are putting up there. The people who allow you to rip it, do they want you to keep it for yourself? Or are you allowed to spread it. If the first is true, then you shouldnt spread it at all. If the second is true then you should spread it without pretending to have any control over it for whatever reason. You did not make the music, you did not play the music, you just recorded it. Some people will credit you for it, most of them wont. Same goes for the tracklisting. U r doing an awesome job getting the stuff, now if you would only realize that you cannot control what you put up on the internet, and that the beauty of it all is in that!

It’s not about you, it’s about the music. Just share it and stop whining

So here you go, Holden @ wigflex without the password.

Or if you care to take if from b-log itself or downloaded it already, here is the password:  ?0!4?(9)2.0:0,9-Ja&M$e§s#H+o*l“d<e>n-pRiVaT(!?!?!?!)share/&%$§“?=)EVIL:-)
